Hong Kong Trademark Registration Costs

Note:
(1) The search fee is inclusive of official fee of HKD400 (USD52);
(2) The registration cost is inclusive of official filing fee of HKD1300 (USD167) for one class code and HKD650 (USD84) for second class code and thereafter;
(3) All prices quoted do not include delivery fees.

Search report will be sent by email; certificate will be sent by registered mail.

Example 1: if you want to register your trademark "ABC" in International Class 9, and you order both the trademark pre-filing search and registration services, then the total costa are as follows:

Registration Certificate: USD70

Example 2: if you want to register your trademark "ABC" in International Classes 9 and 35, and you order both the trademark pre-filing search and registration services, then the total costa are as follows:

Pre-filing Search: USD180

Registration Certificate: USD105
TOTAL: USD995

Example 3 : if you want to register your trademark "ABC" and "DEF" in International Class 9, and you order both the trademark pre-filing search and registration services, then the total costa are as follows:

Pre-filing Search: USD200
Request for registration: USD840
Registration Certificate: USD140
TOTAL: USD1,180

Please note that:
(1) The search report will be sent by email or air mail unless otherwise instructed. If you request that search report be sent by courier, courier charge will be billed separately;
(2) The Power of Attorney and application forms needed to be executed by the applicant. We will deliver the documents by normal air mail unless otherwise instructed. Should express delivery required, the courier charge will be billed separately.

Clients need to provide the following materials:

1. A soft copy of the trademark. Four black and white prints as well as fifteen color prints are required when a trademark is in color.
2. A detailed list of products or services to be covered in the application.
3. Full name and address and the applicant.
4. A priority document when priority is claimed. The document can be filed within 3 months after the filing date of the application.

Step by Step Registration Procedures:

Step 1: Clients send to GT (by email or fax or post) a specimen of the trademark, a detailed list of products to be covered by the trademark and at the same time make payment for the pre-filing search to GT by remittance or check;

Step 2: GT conduct the pre-filing search and prepare search report and email the search reports to clients;

Step 3: (If the search results indicate that the application is likely to be accepted and clients decide to proceed) Clients send us the Photostat copy of identity proof (passport copy for individual and Certificate of Incorporation or Business Registration Licence) and at the same time make payment for the pre-filing search to GT by remittance or check;

Step 4: GT prepare and submit the application documents to the Hong Kong Trade Marks Registry and pay the application fee;

Step 5: The Trademark Registration Office perform examination and other procedures; if no objection received, the Trade Marks Registry (of Intellectual Property Department) )then issues the Certificate of Registration;

Step 6: Client settle the fee for Registration Certificate and GT forward the Certificate of Registration to clients.

Time Scale

Currently it is taking approximately 8 months to get a trademark in Hong Kong.

Period of Protection

10 years.
